Obituary

Mrs. Pearl Stutz, age 96, of Hastings passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 24th, 2019 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Pearl was born in Hastings, MI on December 23, 1922, the daughter of the late George and Mary (Thorne) Roush.

She was raised in the Hastings area and attended local schools graduating from Hastings High School in 1941.

She was married to Mr. Robert Stutz on October 3rd, 1941 in Hastings, MI where the couple made their home together raising their three daughters. While Bob was overseas serving in WWII Pearl worked in downtown Hastings for several years including the local coffee shop. When Bob finished his service Pearl focused on taking care of the family, and took great pride in the families home. Pearl loved to sew, and while her daughters were young she would spend hours making outfits for their dolls. Once all of her daughters were in school full-time she returned to the workforce working at Parmalee’s Dress Shop in Hastings. Spending time with family was always something she looked forward too, and was known for cooking for anyone who was attending a family event. The couple enjoyed spending summers camping in Barryton Michigan, and welcomed family and friends during the warm summer months. After retiring Bob & Pearl enjoyed spending the winter months traveling throughout the Western United States. Florida was always a special destination especially during Major League Baseball's spring training. They enjoyed visiting the ballpark taking in a game during those early spring months.

Pearl & Bob were lifelong members of the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings and were very active for many years. Pearl was a faithful "greeter", who each Sunday provided church goers with her welcoming smile.

Pearl is survived by her three daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Brumm, Mary (Dave) Williams, Sally (Lester "Chip") Fay, 10 Grand children: Bob (Duska) Brumm, Adam (Tammy) Brumm, Cindy Westerink, Nicholas (Marnie) Williams, Travis (Stephanie) Williams, Ashley (Corey) Fueri, Melissa (Scott) Daniels, Nicole Cronk, Zac (Nicky) Fay, Miranda (William) Davis,18 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob, her brother George, and half Sister Annie Jewell

Sally, Mary & Sharon,

I am deeply saddened to hear of your Mom’s passing. I have many fond memories of your mom’s hugs when I was just a kid. I always tried to stop and say hello when I was in town and although I had not seen her in many years she was frequently in my thoughts. It was an honor and a privilege to have known her. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
