My most sincere condolences and sympathies to the entire family for your profound loss of a truly great man. I would like to say this first, that being: If God had come to me before I was born, and told me that I could choose my mother and father, I most certainly would have blessed myself if I had chosen a father just like Carroll, and a mother just like his wife, Edith. I say this with an unwavering sincerity, and a genuine love. For the time that I knew Carroll, he always received me with kindness and attention. I only remember him smiling, and he never spoke an angry or unkind word to me, or about anyone else, either. I remember after experiencing a couple of Christmas Celebrations with Carroll's extended family in his garage and at his home, I was impressed in a sort of humorous way, regarding how Carroll handed out all of those Christmas Envelopes to family members. I mentioned to Joyce that her father reminded me a great deal, of The Godfather; taking center stage, ruling over the proceedings, and handing out the cash to his loyal retinue. I also remember one day after a rather severe storm, Carroll was right out there working hard in that long driveway that led to Joyce's home. Here was a man of advanced years, with previous heart problems, and he was just grabbing branches and limbs and hauling them out of the road, as if he were a very young man. I was duly impressed. And I am quite certain, that it was this attitude and work ethic that contributed greatly, to his long and fruitful life. I always enjoyed talking hunting and fishing with Carroll, but especially, politics. For him, I kept myself somewhat restrained, because I have a strong passion for politics. But I just respected Carroll too much, to allow that passion to be expressed with too much vigor. And I learned things from Carroll too, many things. I remember one time we were discussing the process of "Gerrymandering". And he gave me a new perspective on that process. The time that I spent on sunny afternoons on the deck of Carroll's trailer abode by the lake, enjoying family conversation, and a good meal, were deeply memorable and comforting to me. I felt accepted, and loved, and at ease. All of these times I spent with Carroll and his family, I shall never forget, and I feel an overwhelming gratitude for having experienced it all. Well, I feel gratitude for almost everything. I never did shoot a Turkey on Carroll's property around the lake, Darn it! Indeed, to me, Carroll was a Great Man, and my sadness for myself, and for his wife and family, and for Joyce, upon his transcendence, is Equally Great. I will be holding compassionate and loving thoughts for Carroll's wife Edith, for Joyce, and for the entire family. The Godfather has transcended, and he will be greatly missed. So, to Edith, to Joyce, and to you all, I say: May Good Fortune, Good Health, Happiness, And The Many Blessings Of This Good Life, Fall Upon You All In Great Abundance During This Time Of Your Mourning, And For All Of The Remaining Days Of Your Lives! A parting: "BRAVO" to a Life Well-Lived by Carroll Newton! My Most Sincere, Most Kind, And Most Thoughtful Regards To You All! Charlie Crouch
