Bertina J. Joppie

Mrs. Bertina "Tina" J. Joppie, age 80, of Nashville passed away Tuesday, September 4th, 2012 at Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids, MI.
Tina was born in Battle Creek, MI on September 30, 1931, the daughter of the late Lester J. and Ina J. (VanWormer) Elston. She was raised in the Nashville area and attended local schools graduating from W.K. Kellogg High School in 1949.
She was the wife of Mr. Leonard Joppie. The couple was married in 1949 spent their lives farming in the Nashville area where they raised their family together.
Tina worked for Johnny Dull at the butcher shop as a meat packer for several years, and later was employed at Michigan Magnetic in Vermontville and E.W. Bilss in Hastings.
Tina was always very active and loved to be outdoors. She enjoyed playing golf, water skiing,as well as, riding snowmobiles and motorcycles. Tina was an avid hunter; and using her archery equipment has harvested the largest buck of the family! She even had the opportunity to hunt with the late Fred Bear in Graying MI. In her later years she and Leonard enjoyed spending time together going to flea markets and collecting antiques. During their retirement the couple traveled extensively together, visiting several different countries throughout Europe, and the Western United States. They enjoyed spending many of their winters in Central Florida.
Bertina is survived by her beloved husband Leonard, two daughters, Paula (Lester) Godbey, Julia Mead, her two sisters, Lilah VanDalsen, Judy (Daune) Newland, 10 grand children, and several great and great great grandchildren.
she was preceded in death by her son Steve Joppie in 2005, her son-in law Major Stanley L. Mead 1987.
Funeral services are being handled privately with no funeral home visitation scheduled at this time.
