Obituary for Jay Byron Wilbur
Mr. Jay Wilbur, Age 71 of, Hastings, MI passed away on April 17, 2023, at his home in Hastings, MI.
Jay was born in Mt Clemens, MI, on June 06, 1951, the son of the late Evelyn and Byron Wilbur.
He was raised in the Romeo, MI area attending local schools graduating from Romeo High School in 1970. After completing his education, Jay began working for a tree removal company, establishing a right of way for Channel 41 TV that spanned from the Detroit area to the West side on Michigan. The project eventually concluded in Middleville where Jay settled for a short time, before relocating to Hasting after taking a new job with Flex Fab where ran the shipping department. Jay spent over 27 years with the company before retiring in 2016.
He was married to Joanne (Brookmeyer) on Nov 7, 1986, in Hastings, MI. and they made their home together in Hastings. Jay & Joanne enjoyed spending time at home together working in their garden. Jay was a talented woodworker, and together with Joanne owned and operated a picture frame business called “Stix & Stone” which operated for over 10 years. Over the years their framing work has been used by several local families for family portraits, but also featured by organizations such as Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants forever. During the summer months, Jay especially enjoyed “cruising” in the hot rod “T” bucket. After retiring, Joanne & Jay enjoyed travelling, and have experienced many “adventures” in Cuba.
Jay is survived by his beloved wife Joanne, his sons Jason (Robin) Wilbur, stepchildren John (Robin) Nichols, Craig Nichols, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.
