Obituary for Thelma Burd

Thelma Burd, Age 97 of, Clarksville, MI (formerly of Hastings) passed away on January 08, 2023, at her home Clarksville, MI

Thelma was born in Hastings, MI, on August 07, 1925, a daughter of Zelma and Chester Cox and was one of 7 children

She was raised in the Hastings area and attended local schools, completing her education at Hastings High School. Thelma married Mr. Merle Burd, on December 14, 1943, in Hastings. Merle & Thelma moved to the Nashville area where they began their family returning to Hastings in 1967.

Thelma was a dedicated worker who spent over 25 years in the housekeeping department at Pennock Hospital retiring in 1985

Thelma enjoyed traveling, especially with her brothers & sisters. The Western United States was always a favorite destination, and often their travels would lead them to Texas to visit their siblings. Most recently, Thelma enjoyed traveling to Louisiana, and Delray Texas with her daughter.

She also enjoyed camping with her family in Michigan. When the children were young, she would take them camping at Charlton Park for a month during the summer.

Thelma loved to crochet, and was a talented seamstress, creating beautiful doll clothing, table clothes, bedspreads, Afghans & quilts which she made for each member of her family.

Regardless of what she was doing or where she was going, Thelma always had a good Western or Romance novel to read.

Thelma is survived by her 4 children, Ray (Sandy) Burd, Wilma (Paul) Livingston, Susan Burd, Ellen (Jim) VanGilder, 12 grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Merle, son Melvin Burd, siblings, Lawrence Cox, Ruth Kidder, Marjorie Ackley, Eva Wilson, Donald Cox, & William Cox

Interment will take place privately at Woodland Memorial Park in Woodland, MI.
