Obituary for David Crawford

Mr. David William Crawford, Age 74 of Hastings, MI passed away on September 27, 2022 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI due to the effects of cancer.

David was born in Hastings, MI on December 3, 1947 and was the son of William and Jeanne Crawford. After relocating back to Hastings, David graduated from Hastings HS in 1966. David was very proud to have played on the Hastings Saxons championship team.

David also attended Davenport University for one year to major in Business Administration.
In September 1967, David was drafted into the US Army and proudly served as a member of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, better known as “Black Horse! During his time serving his country, David was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, 2 overseas bars, the Vietnam Campaign medal, Sharpshooter, M-14, Marksman M-16. He was honorably discharged from combat duty in August 1969.

David spent most of his career as a painter.

David loved the University of Michigan, and especially enjoyed time with his brother Greg, going to the “Big House” to watch the Wolverines play football. During the summer months David enjoyed playing softball. When time allowed, he enjoyed playing chess, and watching the Detroit Tigers on television. David lived most of his life in Michigan and appreciated the sounds of the 1960’s Motown classics.

David is survived by his brother Greg Crawford, and he was preceded in death by his sister Nancy Chilvere and his parents.

David will be laid to rest on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at 1:30 PM at Fort Custer National Cemetery, with full military honors being provided by the United States Army, and the Fort Custer National Cemetery Honor Guard.
