Obituary for Wayne Lydy

Wayne Robert Lydy, age 77, of Hastings, MI passed away peacefully on September 06, 2022 with his beloved family by his side. He was born to George and Reba (Falconer) Lydy in Hastings on August 21, 1945 and attended local schools, graduating from Hastings High School in 1963. Wayne was a gifted athlete and excelled in both football and baseball.

He began his working career at General Motors in 1965 and retired in 1993 at the age of 48, after 28 years with the company. Wayne married Janet (Hubbell) Lydy on April 9, 1976, in Hastings, where they made their home and raised their family together. He volunteered for many years at the Barry County Commission on Aging and several other organizations. Wayne enjoyed traveling with his family, especially to the homes of family members in Florida & Colorado. In later years, the couple wintered in Florida where he golfed three to five days per week.

His passion for sports stayed with him into his adult years where he enjoyed playing fastpitch softball. He played for the Moose Lodge and Hastings Manufacturing. He then joined the Coral Gables AA Team from East Lansing where he played many weekend tournaments throughout Michigan. Wayne and his family enjoyed camping with his fellow teammates and their families. During the winter months he bowled on a couple of leagues and for 25 years he was a member, and later team captain, of his ABC Nationals Bowling Team where they participated in National tournaments throughout the United States. After many years of participation in competitive sports, a significant knee injury resulted in his discovery of the game of golf. He truly loved the game and belonged to two leagues at Mullenhurst, his favorite course, a mixed league with Jan, and a traveling league with close friends.

Wayne is survived by his beloved wife Jan, his daughters, Cara (Jack) Harmsen, Cheryl (Alan) Olsen, brothers, Shannon (Lynette) Lydy, Michael (Rebecca) Lydy, his sister in‐law Betty Lydy, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Gary Lydy, niece Sandra Gregory, nephews Randy Lydy and TJ Heath.
