Obituary for Arthur Simmons

Mr. Arthur Simmons, Age 79 of, Hastings, MI passed away on August 15, 2022, at his home in Hastings.
Arthur was born in St. Ignace, MI, on March 03, 1943, a son of Dorothy and Hugh Bert Simmons.
He was raised in the Lacey area and attended local schools in Hastings. In August 1961 Art joined the United States Army where he served in the 101st Airborne. He served faithfully for three years before being honorably discharged in 1964.
On Sept 2, 1962, Art was married to Katherine (Lake) Simmons in Lacey, MI. They spent the first years of their marriage in Kentucky while Art completed his military service. After being discharged, Art & Kathy returned to Michigan and began their lives together in Marshall, MI, before settling in Hastings where they raised their family together. Art & Kathy enjoyed traveling, and have visited Alaska several times. They spent their 50th wedding anniversary in Thailand.
Art was a painter by occupation but had several talents which he used throughout his working career to restore and sell homes. He spent several years with Diamond Machinery in Hastings, and Beech & Rich in Battle Creek sandblasting and refinishing heavy equipment.
Art was a collector, with interests that spanned a large spectrum, and collected of a wide range of things from lanterns, tractors, bicycles and anything else that piqued his interest. He was an avid worker and was exceptionally talented at wood carving and intricate painting. Over the years Art carved several beautiful pieces for his family and friends.
Art is survived by his beloved wife Kathy, his children Robert (Stacy) Simmons, Rick Simmons, his brother Lloyd Simmons, sisters Carol (Dave) Patrick, Judy Hose, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Will & Earl Simmons, his sons Arthur R. Simmons II, Randall Simmons, and grandson Mackenzie Simmons.
Art will be interred privately at Union Cemetery
