Obituary for Gene Forquer

Mr. Gene Forquer, Age 70 of, Vermontville, MI passed away on May 5, 2022 at His home in Vermontville, MI.

Gene was born in Lansing, MI, on June 9, 1951, a son of Lila (Geyer) and Louis Forquer. He was raised in the Portland area on the Looking Glass River and attended local schools graduating from Portland High School. Gene excelled at sports and was a 3-sport athlete, receiving his varsity in Football, Track, and Basketball all four years of his high school career. His tremendous effort in the sports arena earned him "Most Athletic" by his classmates

After graduating, Gene began working at General Motors as a Janitor. His work ethic moved him to several promotions, completing his career as a Journeyman in facility maintenance. A large portion of his career Gene was involved in repairing and pouring concrete throughout the plant.

Gene loved being outdoors farmed for many years, while also maintaining a full-time job. He was a very diligent and hard worker and in 1998 he began his own tree trimming business with his best friend Kenny Christopher. The two partners taught themselves the art of above ground tree removal by reading books and watching videos. They operated the business successfully for over 12 years before they retired in 2012.

Gene was always busy, and he enjoyed learning new things, often applying what he learned to enhance the lives of those around him. Whether learning to repair chainsaws, crafting items from raw leather, or building a meat smoker, Gene’s ability to identify a problem, then seek out a resolution seemed endless. One of his favorite activities involved hitching his homemade meat smoker to his truck and helping a friend or neighbor with a “pig roast”. For Gene, this meant more than just a good meal, it was a time to catch up with old friends and meet new friends.

Gene was a great neighbor, who enjoyed cutting wood for his neighbors who needed an extra hand often before his own. During his quiet time, he enjoyed learning about the Civil War, and American History, or watching old Sherlock Holmes movies, burning a candle and relaxing in his house.

Gene is survived by his children, Jennifer (DJ) McIntyre, Lucas Forquer, his brother Gary, 4 grandchildren Payne, Hazi Lyn, Zanna, and Kylee, and his best friends Chis Morris, and Kenny Christopher. He was preceded in death by his brother Larry, sister & brother in-law Linden & Luanne Aspinall, and nephew Mark Forquer
