Obituary for Bruce Yost Jr.

Bruce Oliver Yost Jr.

Bruce Yost Jr., age 78, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away Tuesday, June 8th, at his home after a short battle with cancer.

Bruce was born in Grand Rapids, MI on February 11, 1943, a son of the late Margaret (Shively) and Bruce Yost Sr.

He lived in Evansville, IN from 1951 to 1958, returned to the Grand Rapids area, and graduated from Union High School in 1961. After high school he enlisted in the United States Airforce and was stationed in Peru, IN transferring to Roswell, NM until his discharge in 1965.

In 1977 Bruce was married to Sally (Kryszewski) Yost, making their home together in the Grand Rapids, MI. Bruce & Sally enjoyed spending time together traveling to the western United States and Mexico with friends. Bruce had a passion for music and was an accomplished bass guitarist. For several years he played in a band, the Sounds of Rhythm, with his cousin and friends. Sally enjoyed hearing Bruce play at several local establishments around the Greenville area and at the local Moose Lodges. Sally passed away unexpectedly in 2007.

In 2014, Bruce met his best friend and companion Carolyn Lyon. Bruce introduced Carolyn to bowling and golf. He was an excellent teacher, and it wasn't long before Carolyn began beating him at his own games! Together they also enjoyed spending time with friends, taking in the sights of northern Michigan, and playing trivia at the Play Station. In his spare time Bruce enjoyed working in his yard, puttering with his inventions, and working on his model train - a hobby which through the years has grown to encompass the entire second floor of his home.

Bruce is survived by Carolyn Lyon, his daughter Christine (Robert Jr.) McFarlin, stepdaughter Christine Jansen,
stepson Ron (Monica) Leonard, sister Judy (Charles) Townsend, brother Ken (Laura) Yost, and 6 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally, and stepdaughter, Connie Laseur.

In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to Guiding Light Ministries or your local veteran's charity.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Daniels Funeral Home, Nashville, MI. For details regarding a future Celebration of Life near the end of Summer 2021, please visit our website at www.danielsfuneralhome.net
