Obituary for Arlene DeCamp (Gaylor)

Arlene J. DeCamp, 87 from Marshall Michigan (formerly Nashville Michigan), passed away on June 3, 2021. at the Villa at Winston Court in Marshall. She was born on May 9, 1934 to Owen and Gladys Gaylor in Battle Creek Michigan.
Arlene spent most of her early years in Union City before her family moved to Hastings in 1950. Arlene graduated from Nashville High School in 1952. While attending high school she met the love of her life, Robert DeCamp and they were married on August 15, 1953. They were married for 62 years before Robert preceded her in death in 2016. Most of those years they lived in Nashville.
Arlene worked several jobs before her children were born but was best known as a wife and mother. She was an active community volunteer. She was a Cub Scout leader, Brownie troop leader, board member of the Nashville Little League and helped start girls’ softball in Nashville, Band Booster, 4-H leader and PTA member. She was on the Maple Valley Board of Education for 8 years allowing her to present high diplomas to her children Bryan and Julie on their graduation days. She was an avid knitter and crafter. You would always know that your baby shower gift would include a baby sweater handmade by her.
Arlene loved the outdoors. You would find her mushroom hunting around Barry County or Mesick in the spring and Fishing at Yankee Springs in the fall. She loved to camp with family, traveling to many locations throughout the U.S. including Maine, California, Alaska and most of Michigan. Bob and Arlene also spent the winter in Haines City Florida for many years.
Arlene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Julie and Larry Wilhelm, 5 grandchildren Tim (Sydney) Wilhelm, Adam Wilhelm, Josh (Kim) DeCamp, Jesse (Shelby) DeCamp, and Jordon (Alex) DeCamp. She also had 4 great granddaughters, Alexa DeCamp, Sage DeCamp, Madison DeCamp and Kinslee Wilhelm.
She was preceded in death by her husband, sons Bryan DeCamp and Bradley DeCamp, siblings Dortha VerMeulen and Mid Gaylor.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 9th at The Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville, MI.

The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 9th at The Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville, MI.

There will be a time of fellowship and luncheon immediately following the funeral service at the funeral home.

Interment will take place privately at Wilcox Cemetery Nashville, MI.

Memorial contributions in Arlene’s honor may go to Oaklawn Hospice, 13444 Preston Dr., Marshall, MI 49068.

The family would like to thank the Villa at Winston Court for the great care and love they showed Arlene the last 5 years.
