Marvin Leroy Laurie

Marvin Leroy Laurie, age 82, of Nashville, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021. Marvin died of a broken heart and complications from Alzheimer's 77 days after the death of his beloved wife of 60 years.

Marvin was born in Hudson, MI on August 25, 1938, a son of the late Abraham and Thelma (Sines) Laurie.

He was raised in the Nashville/Vermontville area and attended local schools graduating from W.K. Kellogg in 1958.

Marvin's working career started young, he worked at Louis' Soda Shop and Grocery, Nashville from 1955-1958. Harry's Feed Mill, Vermontville from 1958-1959. Fisher Body, Lansing from 1959-1961. Hastings Manufacturing, Hastings from 1961-1992. After that long working career he couldn't sit idle and then spent 10 years with Hastings Mutual Insurance Company in the Maintenance Department.

Marvin was the husband of the late Judith (Day) Laurie. The couple was married on September 24, 1960 at the Nashville EUB Church. Marvin and Judy spent their entire lives together in the home they constructed on her Grandparents farm. The family spent their days riding dirt bikes together and camping. Along with his wife Judy the couple enjoyed traveling by motorcycle thousands of miles together visiting the Western United States and Canada.

Marvin enjoyed working in his shop and tinkering on anything mechanical, riding his motorcycle, playing cards and visiting. In his later years "marbles" was his go to game. He was very competitive and passed this trait onto his family.

Marvin was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his daughter, Debra (Colin) Erb, son, Timothy (Felicity) Laurie, four grandchildren, Lyndsey (Kevin) Lenhart, Heather (Tyler) Guernsey, Craig Laurie (Martin Quarg), Eric (Ida) Laurie, eight great grandchildren, Kaden, Karter, Khloe, Kaylie Lenhart, Logan, Addison Guernsey, Annabel, and Luka Laurie, four sisters, Barbara Mix, Patricia Degner, Sandra (Duane) McDonald, Suzanne (Bruce) Hunt.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years Judy, infant brothers Gary and Richard Laurie, brothers-in-law Russ Mix and Roy Degner.

Funeral Services were held at Daniels Funeral Home, Nashville, on Monday, June 7, 2021. Pastor Karen Kinney officiated. There was a time of fellowship immediately following the funeral service followed by a graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Nashville United Methodist Church.
