Obituary for Janice Lamie

Janice Lamie

Ms. Janice Lamie, age 75, of Hastings passed away Wednesday, March 24th, 2021 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Janice was born in Hastings, MI on December 26, 1945, the daughter of the late Elton Dale and Gertrude Evelynn (Manning) Armour. She was raised in the Hastings area, and attended local schools graduating from Hastings High School 1964.

Janice loved taking care of her family, and while her children were growing their home was where all the neighborhood children gathered. She was affectionately coined the first "free range" mom of her time, because she allowed her children the freedom to explore and make their own mistakes. Her home was always a very joyful place, that never lacked for those "forbidden" snacks that other parents wouldn't allow. The summer time was always a very special time, as Janice would load up her car with several neighborhood children and head to Charlton Park for a day full of playing in the water and on the beach. Janice even made cleaning the house fun. The console record player, was always full of the latest hit records that should play while she took care of the daily household chores, dancing the entire time.

In 1987 Janice began working at Lowell Engineering. She continued her education while maintaining a full time career, applying her coursework in the testing lab where they made mirrors for the automotive industry. Janice retired in 2013 after 26 years with the company. After retiring, Janice and her close friends enjoyed traveling together. For over 12 years they would take turns selecting a destination, then spend their trip enjoying the various sights each place had to offer. Her adventurous spirit was born early; shortly after completing high school, she and a friend packed their bags and traveled to New York where they were able to take in the various attractions of the city.

One Janice's favorite pastimes was shopping, especially "thrift shopping". Along with her daughters and friends they would take off on a Saturday morning and visit local garage sales, and thrift stores in search of those items they didn't necessarily "need", but couldn't "do without"!

Janice is survived by her two daughters, Carol (Rob) Mack, Kerri Lamie, her sister, Kathy (Jeff) Brownell, two brothers, Ron Armour, David (Cathy) Armour, 3 grandchildren Elaine Ledbetter, Jordan Mack, Shelby Mack, and great grand son Robert Kelley III

She was preceded in death by her brother Bryon Armour, and infant son Scott
