Obituary for Carl Waghorn

Carl Francis Waghorn, age 79, passed away peacefully January 23, 2021. He is preceded in death by his dear wife, Kathleen Ann (Hickman) of 54 years; she passed only 6 weeks prior to Carl. Carl is survived by his daughters, Katherine (Kevin) Timmerman and Sharon (Paul) Chesnutt, his grandson, Brian Vincent and granddaughters, Megan Sue, Rachel Marie, and Erin Elizabeth. His twin sister Carol (Don) Webb, his sister-in-law Maureen MacVay and brother-in-law Dennis Hickman. He had a special place in his heart for the grand pups Dixie, Solo, Harley and Blu. Carl worked at the GM Flint V8 plant for 37 years. His motto was, “Work hard, Play hard.” He enjoyed sampling his wife’s cooking and baking along with picnics at Kensington Metro Park and camping especially at Young State Park (where they retired at). Carl donated his time through American Red Cross blood donations and later creating brownie sundaes for the St. Matthew’s blood drives. He was a dependable worker at Habitat for Humanity in Northern Michigan. Carl was a member of the St. Sebastian’s Knights of Columbus and St. Matthew’s in Boyne City.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Sebastian Church, Byron Center on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Noon. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior.

Interment will be at a later date at Oakwood Catholic Cemetery, Traverse City, Michigan.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Sebastian Knights of Columbus.
