Russell Hoeve

Mr. Russell Hoeve, age 87, of Nashville passed away Monday, November 30th, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Russell was born in Grand Rapids, MI on November 1, 1933, the son of the late Joe and Marion Hoeve. He was raised in the Grand Rapids area attended East Kentwood High School.

On January 11, 1958 Russ enlisted in the United States Army. In 1959 Russ qualified as a sharp shooter, then earning his Expert badge in 1960. Russ spent over 34 years as a mechanic, specializing in tank and Jeep repair at the Armory in Lansing, MI. On November 1, 1993 he retired from the Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class.

He was the husband of Sylvia (Hansen) Hoeve. On march 15, 1987 Russ and Sylvia were married at the Nashville Assembly of God Church, as Sylvia's parents were simultaneously renewing their vows. Russ & Sylvia spent their lives together in Nashville, where they enjoyed their time together with family and friends.

After retiring, Russ remained very active, working on cars, driving his Amish friends around, and taking many trips to Ohio with David Coblentz to bring back furniture for his store in Vermontville. He and Sylvia enjoyed spending winters in Zephyrhills Florida, donating time work at the Red Bird Mission in the Kentucky, and traveling throughout the United States. During his quiet time, Russ enjoyed playing Solitaire and reading Louis Lamore Western novels.

Russell is survived by his beloved wife Sylvia, four daughters, Judy (Chuck) Anderson, Helen Pingel, Beth (Brian) Smitherman, Michelle Potter, three sons Eugene Hoeve, Russ Hoeve Jr., Steve (Trina) Fisher, two sisters, Margret Browne, Arlene (Bill) Thiebout sister in law Julie Fisher, 20 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren and dog Sammy.

He was preceded by his son Darren Fisher, his brothers Joe, Don & Bobby Hoeve, and sister Dorothy Cherry.

A huge thank you from the family to Pastor Karen Kinny for all of her many visits, friendship, and spiritual leadership throughout this difficult time. Also, A huge thankyou to Heartland Hospice for all of there wonderful care.

In the spring there will be a special celebration of Russ's life. Details will be provided at a later date.
