Ernest Rice
Mr. Ernest Rice, age 85, of Nashville passed away Saturday, March 28th, 2020 at his home.
Ernie was born in Lansing, MI on October 2, 1934, the son of the late Oscar and Ruth (Hill) Rice.
He was raised in the Hastings area, and attended local schools graduating from Hastings High School.
He was the husband of JoAnne (Bryans) Rice. The couple was married November 14, 1981 and made their home together in Nashville.
Ernie was a Korean War Veteran. He was a proud Life Member of the Nashville VFW Post 8260 serving as Post Commander and many other duties throughout the years. Each night Ernie would meet his friends and fellow VFW members at the club for cards and fellowship.
Ernie spent his working career at Kellogg's in Battle Creek, MI, retiring at the age of 55 after 35 years of faithful service.
Ernie loved working on his home property, gardening, planting trees, cutting wood. He was an avid deer hunter, and also enjoyed fishing. Each year the family would take several fishing trips and other traveling adventures, included several cruises with his beloved wife JoAnne. Ernie loved his family and cherished their time together, and has shared several ocean cruises with the entire family including the Caribbean, and Alaska.
Ernest is survived by his beloved wife JoAnne, four daughters, Cindy (Bruce) Carpenter, Becky (Tim Smith) Rice, Nancy Ulrich, Tina (Ed Shaw) Thompson, two sons Jay (Robin) Rice, Dan (Shennon) Rice. and several grand children and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister Caroline Hamilton
Those wishing to pay respects, may visit the funeral home from 9am - 12 noon on Wednesday April 1, 2020.
Funeral services are being conducted privately. Interment with full military honors will also take place privately at Hosmer Cemetery.
