Mrs. Leahbelle Dawe, 92, of Dowling, MI, passed away Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019 at Borgess Health surrounded by her family.
Leahbelle was born in Battle Creek, MI on September 10, 1926, the daughter of the late Paul and Helen (Uhl) Tanner.
She was raised in the Battle Creek area and attended local schools graduating from Battle Creek Central High School in 1944.
She was married to Robert Dawe on March 3, 1944.. They began their life in the Battle Creek area and moved to the Dowling area in 1948. In 1979 they moved to Bristol Lake where they spent their remaining years. Robert passed away in January 2001.They enjoyed getting together with the neighbors on Saturday nights for cards games. Leahbelle began working at Hastings Manufacturing in 1969 as a machine operator, she retired in 1988. Family was the most important thing to her and many birthdays and holidays were spent with her. The baskets she wove were cherished items that she gave to many. Swimming, fishing and sailing were some of her favorite past times. In the winter months you would hear music coming from her house while she spent many hours playing her organ. Leahbelle will be missed by her three sons Richard Dawe, Donald (Carol) Dawe, Benjamin (Connie) Dawe.
The lessons she taught will be remembered by by her 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters Vesta & Rosemary, her brothers Max & Durwood, and her daughter-in-law Christine Dawe .
Memorial contributions can be made to Barry County Commission on Aging.
Memorial Service at Daniels Funeral Home, Nashville, MI, at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 30th, with Tom & Kim Tanner officiating. Lunch will follow at Pleasantview Family Church. Interment will be at Dowling Cemetery Hastings, MI.
