John H. Smith

Mr. John H. Smith, age 74, of Hastings passed away on Thursday, August 16th, 2018 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus, in Grand Rapids, MI.

John was born in Hastings, MI on December 11, 1943, the son of the late Alonzo and Allie (Burpee) Smith. He was raised in the Freeport and Middleville areas and attended local schools graduating from Thornapple Kellogg High School.

John spent a short time employed at Bradford White in Middleville, before joining Ferrell Gas in Hastings where he worked for over 14 years before retiring. In his spare time, John also worked the family farm, through the years, he raised cattle, crop farmed and successfully owned and operated a dairy farm.

John loved to farm and enjoyed his antique John Deere tractors and often would travel the area visiting auction sales.

John is survived by his three daughters, Korina (Tom) Wilson, Faith (Christina) Smith, April (John) Bang, his son Jeff Smith, two sisters, Dorothy (Mick) Janose, Virginia Elliott, grandchildren Julia & Selena Smith, Jeremy & Carl Wood III, Aaron Casey, Tempest Smith, Levi Smith, Dakota, Isaac Nicholson, 6 great grandchildren, and his aunt Nora Butcher.

The family will receive visitor at The Daniels Funeral Home, Nashville, MI, at 4-7 PM on Tuesday, August 21st, 2018

Interment will take place privately at Irving Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Commission on Aging.
