Laura Avery

Mrs. Laura Avery, age 81, of Hastings passes away Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Spectrum Pennock Hospital in Hastings.

Laura was born in Charlotte, MI on August 31, 1936, the daughter of the late Howard and Marion (Callihan) Hamilton. She was raised in the Bellevue area and attended local schools graduating from Bellevue High School in 1954.

She was the wife of Ronald Avery. The couple was married September 11, 1954 at The Assyria Gospel Church. They began their lives in a home that Ron built on Algonquin Lake. Then moved out of town after about 4 years to their current home where they raised their family together. Ron & Laura have celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Laura was a very talented book keeper and throughout the years worked at EW Bliss, she sold clothing for Minnesota Woven Clothing Company, Hastings Manufacturing, and Cappon Oil.

Along with her husband Ron, the couple enjoyed traveling to Arizona for a few weeks every year. Laura loved spending time in the Western United States where she could study American Indian Culture and art. Another favorite Western destination was riding the Silverton Train through Durango Colorado. Laura was a tremendous baker; her homemade pies where a family favorite primarily due to her made from scratch crust!. She loved spending time with her friends whether getting her hair done each Friday, meeting Ron at State Street Diner after he finished driving bus, or lunch with her beloved friend Vonda Cappon every Wednesday, Laura certainly cherished those times.

Laura is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years Ron, three daughters, Cindy Cason, Kerri Avery, Christine Earle, six sisters, Phyllis (Bob) Homan, Virginia (Earl) Ryan, Charlene (Lynn) Preston, Millie (Jack) Carlson, Neva (Steve) McMillan, Maxine Pixley, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and "adopted" brother Bob Mahar, She was preceded in death by her grand daughter April Black, and brother in-law Leonard Pixley

Funeral services will be held at The Pleasantview Family Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2017 with Pastor Steve Olmstead officiating.

The family will receive visitors on Friday October 27, 2017 from 5-8 PM at The Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville, MI.

Interment will take privately at Barryville Cemetery Nashville, MI.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Pleasantview Family Church.
