Steven Belson

Mr. Steven Belson, age 67, of Ceresco, MI (Formerly of Nashville) passed away on Monday, October 29th, 2018 at Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, with his family by his side.

Steven was born in Hastings, MI on December 22, 1950, the son of the late Archie and Betty (Gould) Belson. He was raised on the family's Barryville Road farm and attended Moore Country School, and Hastings High School graduating in 1969.

Steven spent his career working in the television production industry as an Electrical Engineer. Through the years, he established himself as a vital part of the the Channel 41 production team managing everything from telephone installation to hand inputting station programming. In 1995 he was honored with the the "Employee of the Year" award and given an all expense cruise to Alaska. Steven loved to learn and received his BA in History from Western Michigan University. His talent for electronics extended to his hobby of Ham Radio Operation. Steven honed his skills being recognized as an "expert" in the field and he was able to assist others and also administer skills testing for other operators.

Steven loved to spend his free time "birding". He has traveled extensively throughout the world learning and exploring new habitats of birds. It was on one of these excursions that he met his wife Carol (Mazzei) Belson. The couple was married on July 20, 2009 and made their home together in the Ceresco area. Steven and Carol both shared a love of bird watching and have spent many wonderful years exploring their hobby together with many great friends.

Steven was an avid traveler, and has visited Europe, several Caribbean islands, the Galapagos Island, and multiple African Safaris. He loved animals and his volunteer position at Binder Park Zoo allowed him the opportunity to teaching children about the many different species of animals at the zoo.

One of the annual highlights for Steven was organizing the Belson family reunion which he never missed. He used his passion for history to produce ancestral studies and documentation for not only family, but several others as well. Most recently, he and his brother Tom, enjoyed restoring their antique International Harvester tractors. The highlight of the summer was the antique "tractor parade" which originated and ended at the Belson Farm on Barryville Road. His nieces could always count on Uncle Steve to attend their sporting and school events.

Steven is survived by his beloved wife of 10 years Carol, his sister, Bonita Belson, two brothers, Tom (Zandra) Belson, Bill Belson, nieces Melissa (Scott) Daniels, Nicole Cronk, Amy (Andy) Urquhart & Ashley (Cory) Fueri. As well as several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Archie Belson in 1972, and his mother Betty Belson in 2017
