Donald Terry Smith Jr.
Mr. Donald Terry Smith Jr., age 63, of Hastings passed away Saturday, June 30th, 2018 at his home.
Donald was born in Saginaw, MI on February 28, 1955, the son of Donald Sr. and Sandra (Main) Haas.
He was raised in the Saginaw area and attended local schools. At the age of 16 his mother gave him permission to join the United States Marine Corp where he served honorably for 4 years. Don completed his high school education in the Marine Corp and after being honorably discharged in 1975 he continued his education at Mid Michigan College and Ferris State University where he received an associates degree and two Bachelors Degrees in Psychology.
He was the husband of Becky (Upton) Smith. The couple met in Harrison, MI and were married on August 8, 1981. Don & Becky began their lives together in the Harrison area, then after Don graduated from college they moved to the Stanton area, where Don worked as a counselor for mental health. After moving to Nashville Don began working at the 10th District Court in Calhoun County as a probation officer where he served faithfully for over 20 years.
Don loved music, especially 1970's classic rock. For over 20 years he was active in the Nashville community coaching and organizing little league hockey. Don loved to shop! It didn't really matter the location of specific store, he simply enjoyed looking, searching and finding that "Good Deal". Often while shopping with his beloved wife Becky, the couples shopping trips would turn into sight seeing adventures where they took time to just enjoy each other's company. It meant the world to him to spend time with his Children and Grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife Becky, his son Justin (Alexis) Smith, three daughters, Tabitha Smith, Valerie (Dustin Hewitt) Smith, Kimberly Smith, a stepson Christopher (Kristal) Cochran, two step daughters, Rachel (Cal) Predom and Kathy Thelen, two sisters, Helen Mercer, Mary Sagryn,two brothers, David Smith, Dennis Mercer, 4 grandchildren Tristan, Aiden, & Alex Smith, and William Cameron Hewitt.
He was preceded in death by his sister Jeanie Smith and Mother Sandra (Main) Haas.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday July 5, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM With funeral service being held at 7:00 PM at The Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville.
Graveside Services with full military honors will be held Fort Custer National Cemetery Augusta on Friday July 6, 2018 at 12 noon.
