Life Story for Shirley Curtis (Dean)

Shirley Curtis

Mrs. Shirley Curtis, age 79, of Nashville went home to be with her Lord on Monday, July 31, 2017 at her home..

Shirley was born in Charlotte, MI on January 22, 1938, the daughter of the late Nyle and Lucille (Youngs) Dean. She was raised in the Charlotte area and attended local schools graduating from Charlotte High School in 1956

She was the wife of Mr. Vernon J. Curtis. Vernon & Shirley met at a church roller-skating party in Charlotte, and were married on December 8, 1956 in Charlotte, MI. They made their home together on the family farm on Curtis Road in Nashville for several years before building their new home on Lawrence Road to accommodate their growing family. Shirley loved her family, and taking care of their needs was always her first priority.

Shirley and her family enjoyed camping, spending time away at Pine Lake in Olivet during the first two week of July, and each winter, the family would take two weeks and head to Florida to escape the winter. After retiring, Vernon & Shirley enjoyed spending their winters in Florida, which they did for over 20 years.

Shirley is survived by her beloved husband Vernon, a daughter, Sarah (Mike) Gurd, four sons Eric (Jan) Curtis, Craig (Sharon) Curtis, Ivan (Carmen) Curtis, Wayne (LeighAnn) Curtis, She was the loving grandma to her grandchildren Lisa, Aaron, Nichele, Alysha, Sean, Jennifer, and Jessica Curtis, Joshua and Seth Gurd, great grandchildren William & Autumn Curtis

She was preceded in death by her sister Doris Dean.

A celebration of life will be held at The Vermontville Bible Church, Vermontville, MI, at 11 am on Friday, August 4, 2017 with Pastor Joe Benedict officiating.

Interment will take place prior to the celebration of life service at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville, MI.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Gideons or Vermontville Bible Church.
