Life Story for Joyce Ann White (Gripe)

Joyce White

Joyce Ann White, age 84, wife of the late Clare White of Nashville, MI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Mercy Health Saint Mary's Campus in Grand Rapids, MI.

Born December 18, 1932, in Goshen, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Alma (Snow) Gripe. Joyce came to Battle Creek at an early age and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1951. While in high school she worked in the office of Sears, then at the S.S. Kresge Store, for 55 cents per hour. In 1953, Joyce went to work at the Kellogg Company and worked there for more than 10 years. After Kellogg, Joyce’s natural love for children led her to serve as a foster mother for several years. She then returned to the workforce and took a job at Hastings Manufacturing in Hastings, MI, where she worked for 28 years. Joyce retired in 2004 and resumed taking care of children both outside and in her home until fully retiring in 2012.

Joyce loved to garden and enjoyed the canning of her harvest. Her hobbies were her flower garden, reading, and knitting - over the years she made numerous baby afghans and loved to give them away to new mothers. She was a member of Grace Community Church in Nashville, MI, where she taught a children's Sunday school class for a number of years. In 2010, she started attending Hickory Corners Bible Church with her son, Jeff. Her greatest joy and love went to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her stepson, Dale White, 4 grandsons, Brandon (Angie) Roscoe, Jacob Noteboom, Larry Noteboom, and Tyler Noteboom, 2 granddaughters, Amy Rose and Becky (Justin) Titus, her 11 great-grandchildren, Alayna Roscoe, Roman Roscoe, Avianna Robinson, Dalton Rose, Danyella Noteboom, Kodee Wolfe, Cyleigh Noteboom, Cassidy Noteboom, Caitlyn Noteboom, Hailee Titus and Hannah Titus, and her sister Sharon Gripe.

In addition to her husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister, Janet Ruth, her daughter, Sherry Roscoe, and her sons David Noteboom and Jeff Noteboom.

A memorial service will be held at Hickory Corners Bible Church, 13720 Kellogg School Road, Hickory Corners, MI, at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 24, with Reverend Jeff Worden officiating. Immediately following the service, there will be a time of fellowship and luncheon held at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hickory Corners Bible Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Joyce loved the Lord and wanted everyone to know her favorite Bible verse:
For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
