Calvin D. Oles
Mr. Calvin D. Oles,age 69, of Dowling, MI went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 at Eaton Community Palliative Care in Charlotte, MI.
Calvin was born in Lansing, MI on February 1, 1943 the son of the late Ray and Nellie (Moot) Oles.
He was raised in the Lansing area and attended local schools graduating from Sexton High School in 1961. When Calvin was a youngster, he helped support his family by setting pins at the local bowling alley; a task which now is done mechanically.
He was the husband of Judy (Evans) Oles. The couple was married in Lansing, MI on February 27, 1965. They began their lives together in the Lansing area, but relocated to the Nashville area to be closer to their church family at Nashville Baptist Church where Calvin has been a faithful member since 1974. Calvin and Judy have celebrated 47 1/2 years of marriage.
Calvin was employed at General Motors where he worked for over 30 Years, retiring in 1996. He also was a Baker with Freddies, Dawn Donuts, Topps Bakers, Wonder Bread Company and the Silver Bell where he baked the wedding cake that was used at his wedding to Judy in 1965.
Calvin enjoyed playing Golf, and always looked forward to the spring Golf trip with pastor DeGroot and his beloved friends from Nashville Baptist Church. He also enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, and working in his garden where he took great pride in growing pumpkins for his nieces and nephews. Traveling was a big part of Calvin's life during his retirement. He was a member of the Panning for Gold Mining Association and was affectionately known as "Squeaky". Throughout the years he has visited Las Vegas and the Western United States where he would practice his Gold panning skills. He and his wife Judy have also visited the "Holy Land" twice.
Calvin is survived by his beloved wife of over 47 years Judy, a son, Michael S. Oles, a sister, Patsy Rojas, three brothers, Clifford (Barb) Oles, Leonard (Joan) Oles, Jerry (Judi) Oles, his special companion "Harvey", Brothers in-law Howard Evans, & Dean (Annie) Evans, & Alan (Rose) Evans and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings David, Virgil, Arthur, & Lorraine Oles and sister in-law Connie Evans.
Funeral Services will be held at The Nashville Baptist Church, Nashville, MI, at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 1, 2012 with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating.
The family will receive visitors on Friday November 30 from 3-6 PM at The Daniels Funeral Home
A luncheon will be served immediately following the funeral service; followed by the Interment which will take place at the Porter Cemetery in Marshall, MI.
The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Eaton Community Palliative Care, or The Gideons.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville, MI.
